Thinking of Becoming an Ultrasound Tech?

If you are about to graduate from high school, or even if you are in mid-life and you are thinking of a new career, we think you might want to take a look at becoming an ultrasound technician. You may have questions such as how much does an ultrasound technician make, or whether you will be able to advance in this career. This article can answer some of those questions for you.

As far as the salary is concerned, most ultrasound techs who practice in the United States make in excess of $60,000 per year. Add to this the fact that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that this career is expected to grow much faster than normal over the next decades, and you have what turns out to be a very exciting career opportunity. The fact that so many jobs will be created means not only that there will be new jobs for new trainees, but also that there will be room for existing techs to advance in their careers.

Part of the reason that so many new jobs are expected to be created has to do with the fact that this is a relatively new career. Ultrasound has not been around for as long as x rays, for instance, and the technology is always being refined and advanced. There are newer machines that make unbelievable clear images of infants in the womb, for instance. These new machines will require techs to operate them, and the people who will be best poised to move into those jobs are people who are already trained in the field. And once you have been trained to use the newer machines, you skills will be in even greater demand, so there will be even more opportunities available to you. All in all, this seems to be an excellent career choice.
