A dog is such a nice pet. Owning one would definitely bring joy to every member of the household. If you are a person who is fond of traveling and you think that bringing a pet would make a trip more enjoyable, being an owner of a small dog like chihuahua is an answer for that. Known to be the smallest dog in the world, chihuahuas are classified into different names.  Teacup, Miniature, Standard, Pocket size and Toy are the names given for these dogs. All of the terms are used to categorize these tiny pets into sizes and weights. It should not be. Regardless of the size, or whether it weighs 2 pounds, 4 or 6 pounds, they are just simply called Chihuahuas.

A teacup Chihuahua is a creature that will surely give you more fun and excitement. However, do not be fooled with some breeders who are trying to sell this type of dog at a higher cost. Some Chihuahua raisers may claim that they are different from the rest because of their very tiny size and low weight. Get rid of the impression that with teacups, you own a prized and rare species of Chihuahuas. There is no truth about that. Whatever name they are being called, they belong to the same class. Therefore, should only be categorized as short haired and longhaired Chihuahuas.

Do your purchase from legitimate breeders. If you do not want to experience any problems regarding the health of your soon to be pet, only buy from trusted breeders, one that is recognized by the Chihuahua Club of America. It is best to deal with any member of a legitimate kennel club if you need a guarantee that you will be bringing home a healthy and happy pet. The same thing goes if you are planning to get another breed of dog, pits only from pitbull kennels and not from backyard breeders. This way, you are assured that you will be getting a pet that is in good physical shape.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized Chihuahua as one of the oldest dog breeds. There are only two varieties of this dog: longhaired and shorthaired. Whatever name they are called, all of them belong to the same class of Chihuahuas. Some breeders only use such term like teacup in order to attract buyers and for them to sell their raised dogs at costly prices. Do not fall for this. Do not be deceived. You have to know that these names are just created to catch your attention.
