Non Independent Musicians
OK, I'm back to give you some more independent music tips. The life as an independent musician can be a hard one. With no record labels to help you with your promotion or expenses, things can often feel like an uphill struggle. Because of this, I never recommend any independent musicians be 100% independent.
What I mean by this, is every one needs help. It doesn't matter what business you're in, if you want to get past a certain level of success you need to get more people on board. This doesn't mean you will ave to totally rely on any one else or make them part of your long term team, but at times you will need people's help in certain areas.
Let's say for example your schedule's getting pretty busy and you have a lot of things on your plate. You may have heard that social media is a good way for you to get fans for your music, but so far you've only been able to get five people following you (Four if you don't include your mum). So instead of learning how to get facebook fans, why not hire some one to do this part of your music for you instead? Often you won't even have to pay some one for this job, you may be able to get one of your existing fans to help you out in exchange for your CD and / or merchandise.
In business, this is known as outsourcing. You do the things you can do well and have the time to do, and any thing else you get other people to do it. Soon, you will have an army of people working to push your music forward, not totally unlike what would happen in a record label. Independent musicians don't have to be 100% independent, remember, everyone needs help here and there.
