Important Vacuum Cleaner Characteristics
In order to properly take care of the carpets and rugs in your home, you are supposed to run the vacuum cleaner once per week for every member of your household that uses a particular carpeted area. This may seem like more than enough vacuuming, but it is what is necessary if you want to prevent dirt from getting deep into the carpet fibers. The only way to treat ground in dirt like that is with a carpet shampooer. Therefore, you want to make sure that the vacuum cleaner you bring into your home is easy to use and effective. There are several important characteristics that you should be looking for.
The first important vacuum characteristic to consider is the weight of the machine. While it may seem insignificant when you first start vacuuming, you will be surprised at how quickly your arms and wrists can get tired if you are pushing around a heavy piece of cleaning equipment. The lighter the vacuum is the easier it will be to get it out day after day to vacuum. Plus, you want to be able to move the vacuum up and down stairs easily as well. If you need to clean the carpets on the second story, you cannot be stopped because the vacuum is too heavy to move up stairs.
In additionto light weight, the vacuum should also be maneuverable. Maneuverability is the second important vacuum cleaner characteristic. In other words, the vacuum cleaner should be able to change directions without moving your feet and it should be able to vacuum under pieces of furniture without having to move them. Some vacuums have what they call swivel heads so that you can turn them one hundred and eighty degrees with the flick of a wrist rather than walking around to the other side of the
vacuum cleaner. This allows you to vacuum around table legs and pieces of furniture easily. Other vacuums have handles that will bend down to an almost horizontal level so that you can vacuum under furniture easily.
Another vacuum cleaner characteristic that you might find desirable is a bagless vacuum system. Vacuum bags are almost archaic, but some people still cling to the notion that bagless vacuums do not have good suction. This is simply not true. Vacuum cleaners like the have things like No Loss of Suction Technology. The truth is that vacuum bags are the bigger pain because they are difficult to get out and often you make more of a mess trying the change the bag then you had before you started vacuuming.
Finally, you should look into a vacuum cleaner that has the capability to work on multiple types of floor surfaces. Some
vacuum have switches that allow you to go from vacuum cleaner for carpets to floor cleaners for hard floor surfaces. The main advantage here is the fact that you do not have to purchase and store multiple pieces of cleaning equipment. However, this type of a floor cleaner will probably not be the best at any of the tasks for which it is suited. A dedicated vacuum cleaner and steam cleaning machine would be better.
