Genetic dieting for quick weight loss

According to a new study the creation of personalized diets based on the genetic make up of every person helps overweight people lose weight. This is considered to be one of the few diets that work. Most fad diets don't work and only harm your health.

Under recorded descriptions of patients, researchers found that those who followed a proper diet from a genetic point of view were more able to keep the diet and the effects of the diet were constant for a longer period of time.

The examination was done by taking into account 24 variations of 19 genes known to affect the metabolism of humans.

The team compared the history of 50 cases of people that held a genetically customized diet with the history provided by 43 patients whose diet was not genetically customized.

All patients were taken to a weight loss clinic in Greece and followed a traditional menu that consisted of a Mediterranean diet, coupled with exercise and medical visits. The diet of the first group was adapted to the genetic personality of the subjects while retaining the basis of the Mediterranean diet.

In the first months, both groups lost a lot of weight. But after a year, the group whose diet was not personalized started to gain weight. Meanwhile the subjects in the other group, continued to lose weight.

After 300 days, the group that followed a personalized diet was 5 times more likely not to regain lost weight compared to those in the group who kept the traditional diet. In addition, improvements were seen in blood sugar.

The study shows that, keeping a personalized diet can increase your motivation but also the ability to maintain the effects of the diet over time.
