Foyer and Entry Way Design – Use Natural Light
Many people view the foyer as the room in which people can really get an idea of what the style is of the whole house. However, for those that are dealing with entryways and foyers that have numerous windows in them, they may be tempted to cover these windows up. However, they should refrain from doing so because this does increase the charm that the home has. Why is that?
The windows that are not covered by curtains, blinds or shades is going to rely on the natural light to light up the room. Why is this better? Well for one, it is going to lower the amount of electricity that you use. However, it is also going to give the room a natural, warm glow that is going to help to make the entry way feel much more cheerful. This is also going to allow the house to feel as if it is more open.
Those that cover these doors and windows up are going to find that the entry way or foyer is very dark. For some people this is an uninviting feeling that they must overcome in order to get into the house. And for other people they think that a dim light foyer is there for a reason since it may be hiding some of the flaws that are present in the home.
For those that simply cannot leave the windows just sitting there, which is something that many people simply cannot do, then they must be certain that they not covering up the entire window. Hanging valances in a night warm and light color is a great way to splash some color, but still allow for the natural light to seep into the room. However, the person is going to want to avoid using a valance that is a dark and plain out depressing color or they could affect the entire feel of the house.
For those that cannot stand to have the light coming in at all times during the day or simply want better security, the person can install blinds. Better yet, if they install blinds that are wood or some other material besides plastic since these give off a unique feel to them. However, have these blinds open and include a nice door mat when you are expecting guests so that they feel invited. You can also close these at night for those that want added privacy and security. It is all about using what you have and maximizing these attributes so that they are appealing.
