An Easy Pizza Sauce Recipe

To some, pizza is a relative simple food to make. Or, it appears that way. Pizza, despite its simplicity, can be made very badly. It can taste either bland or overdone. Nobody likes burnt cheese or overly doughy and undercooked crusts, but one other thing is true as well. A pizza is only as good as the ingredients used. This is especially true for pizza sauce.

Supermarkets sell prepackaged sauce, and it usually is offered in either cans or jars. This might be okay if you just want a quick pizza to throw into an oven, but the result will taste cheap. The sauce will have no personality, and in many cases, it will be utterly tasteless. A homemade pizza sauce recipe is not that complicated, and good sauce can be made in less than an hour. You can even use a tomato strainer to achieve your preferred thickness.

The easiest fresh sauce only requires some tomatoes, herbs, and garlic. Roughly chop the tomatoes and drop them into a blender. Before blending the tomatoes, add your preferred herbs. Basil is good for a sweeter taste, and oregano is better if you love a bit of sharpness. Mince some garlic, add it to the blender, and mix thoroughly. The resulting sauce can be used immediately, but sometimes, it's best to let it sit overnight in the refrigerator. That way, the sauce has a chance to stew and fully incorporate the herbs and garlic into the tomato flavor.

There are easy ways to customize a simple sauce to your tastes. A little bit of red pepper flake can go a very far. It can add a bit of bite to a pizza's overall flavor. If you prefer sometime more complex, you can blend pesto in with the tomatoes. Of course, this is all part of a standard red sauce. In New Jersey and New York, other pasta sauces are increasingly used. No matter your choice, homemade sauces always taste better than something poured out of a tin can.
